About The Poster:

I think it is always interesting to do research about the artists who produce the pieces that I sell - that way I, and the people who ultimately buy the pieces, can understand a little bit about who produced the artwork and the world in which the artist lived. This wonderful original lithograph, from roughly 1900, was created by Maurice Biais, the husband of Jane Avril, a Moulin Rouge performer often featured by Toulouse Lautrec. In a New York Times article written about a Biais exhibit in New York in  1901 it was said: "Maurice Biais follows in the footsteps of Cheret ... at times he suggests the London prodigy, Aubrey Beardsley, and again he will make .... one to recall some of the caricaturists for Munich "Jugend".
Anything with horses and riders appeals to me, but with this piece the size, the coloration and the detail also made it hard to pass up - all of it screams turn of the century finesse, elegance and hauteur... and I LOVE IT!  Measuring 21.5 x 47 inches, in excellent (A) condition and mounted on linen, this piece will look magnificent framed and is just exquisite.
