About The Poster: A poster produced in 1981 for a retrospective of Cappiello which was held in Paris and sponsored by the Minister of Culture and Communication (Cappiello no doubt would have approved!). Poster was printed by the Spadem printers in Paris and copyrighted by Pierre Faucheux. It measures 16 x 23.5 inches and is a wonderful tribute to an artist who forever changed the face of posters and poster art. (We have many original Cappiellos listed on this site - including some of the pochoirs which no doubt inspired this poster). Poster is in excellent condition and was recently purchased in Europe.
Cappiello himself is considered to be one of the greatest posterists of his age. Cappiello's approach was "always image association - the idea that you don't really remember the image of the product itself, but the image of something is associated with the product ... Cappiello was the first who thoroughly understood this, and he applied it with considerable diligence in about a thousand posters."(Rennert)
