About The Poster: This book is a rare German silhouette book printed in Berlin, 1919. It contains 34 silhouette plates bound in accordion style (see photos) which can unfold completely to reveal a banner-style print. Text is included as a 13 page floating booklet laid in the cover. Per aspera ad astra is a latin phrase which means "Through hardships to the stars". The book is a work by Karl Wilhelm Diefenbach who was a German Art Nouveau painter and a social reformer. A museum of his work was inaugurated in Capri, Italy, in 1974. It symbolises the artist's important contribuation to the island when he lived there from 1900 until his death.
