About The Poster: This bright and lively poster was issued in 1932 by the "Direccion General del Tourismo", then Spain's official tourism bureau. Then, as now, the idealized version of the Spanish 'dona' (woman), was a romantic, mantilla-clad stranger - a woman with elan, poise and that stylistic element which in French is called 'je ne sais quoi'.
Travel posters for Spain were initially developed during the last years of Francisco Franco's dictatorship, when the country became a popular place for summer holidays, especially for tourists from the British Isles and France. In 2007, Spain became the second most visited country of the world aside from France. That year, almost 60 million foreign tourists were received, according to the World Tourism Organization, which has its headquarters in Madrid. The poster is in excellent condition, is linen backed, and measures 25 x 39 inches.
