About The Poster:

This black and white poster created in October 1917 is a rarity - and in excellent condition! It features three soldiers set before the Statue of Liberty and is signed by Lucien-Hector Jonas. The French soldier sports an Adrian helmet, distinguishable by the decorative flaming bomb insignia set into the metal. To the right of him is the English soldier, who is seen wearing a steel Brodie helmet (also known as the 'tin hat'), recognizable for its wider brim. Behind them, an American soldier runs towards the action. In such propaganda posters, U.S. soldiers are often depicted as being 'behind' other allied troops because they had waited so long before deciding to join the cause. By the end of 1915, Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria, Germany, and the Ottoman Empire were battling the Allied Powers of Britain, France, Russia, Italy, Belgium, Serbia, Montenegro, and Japan. The U.S. only entered in April 1917. The American soldier can also be identified by his Mountie ranger or "Smokey bear" hat (officially called a campaign hat).

A great image signed by the artist and offered at a very reasonable price!
