About The Poster: I am a fanatic for old paper - when I opened the gallery I had to learn how to reign myself in and not buy everything that appealed to me. This summer I went on a buying trip to Italy to find maquettes and special items which I love and which I can not find anywhere other than through a particular dealer who shares my particular love and taste for old paper. It is from him that I acquired this and a variety of other strange and wonderful pieces. I love design and I like to see how things are produced from the inception of an idea ... I suppose that is why posters and ephemera in general appeals to me...


This small sheet measures roughly 9.5 x 13 inches - it seems to have been executed in watercolor on arches paper. It reminds me very much of the style of Segar (he of Popeye) fame: just look at the way the girls are drawn... Shot full of color it shows a girl (in bloomers no less) smooching a somewhat unsuspecting young man while a group of kids looks on. The scene is so complete - even including a Do Not Post sign on the fence and a school in the distance... I love it! If I read the date correctly, on the bottom right, it appears to have been executed in 1936 although the signature is illegible. It has been archived since it was produced and show no aging, no foxing, no tearing and no wear.
