About this poster: The Montreux Jazz Festival is the best known music festival in Switzerland and one of the most prestigious in Europe. The event is held annually in early July and takes place on the shores of Lake Geneva. The Festival was founded in 1967 and at the time featured almost exclusively jazz artists such as Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, and Keith Jarrett. In the 1980s, when this particular poster was designed, the festival was beginning to expand dramatically and open up to all imaginable music styles (source: Wikipedia).
Francois Boisrond (1959-) is a French painter, graphic artist, and professor at L'Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In the 1980s, he played a leading role in the creation of the artistic movement known as "Figuration Libre". The movement is described as the French counterpart to America's Neo-expressionism.
