About The Poster: A fabulous travel poster advertising Soisson, for the Chemin de Fer du Nord (Railway of the North). Les Chemin de Fer du Nord opened in 1845 and ran until 1937 when it was nationalised, becoming a part of the SNCF (Société Nationale des Chemins de fer français; "French National Railway Corporation"). The SNCF was nationalized in an effort to promote tourism, and deflect the impact of automobile traffic. The company hired some of the best poster artists of the time to create works advertising almost every corner of the country. Using the best of Art Deco design, colours of the period and typography which is quite typical of the age, the artist manages to convey the charms of each of the destinations he has been hired to advertise. This poster is lined and in excellent condition.
