About the Poster: In 1938, France’s five major railways merged to create the Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer Français (SNCF) "French National Railroads". To promote the railway, the SNCF commissioned top French artists to create artwork for their posters featuring the various destinations one could visit using the railway system. This poster in particular showcases the Ile De France as a tourist destination. Ile de France is the administrative region surrounding Paris and other cities such as Versailles, and is the wealthiest and most populated region of the country. Singed in the lithographic plate by Marc Saint Saens, this poster is linen backed and in excellent condition.
