1972 Pablo Picasso Exhibition Poster, Musee Dynamique-Dakar
Size: 21.25 x 30 inches
Notes: Poster, unlined, lithograph
Artist: Picasso, Pablo
About The Poster: This poster advertises an exhibition of Pablo Picasso's works presented at the Musee Dynamique in Dakar, Senegal. The image that you see is of Picasso's 1971 painting, The Clown and the Harlequin.
The figure to the left does not immediately give the impression of being a clown, although his oversized hands and feet certainly give him a goofy look! To his right, a harlequin looks as if he's trying to speak to him. Picasso's implementation of vibrant colours and expressive, erratic lines add vibrancy and movement to the piece. Their faces, however, are not very animated, giving the impression that a serious moment has followed a comical performance.
About the Artist: In terms of art, Pablo Picasso (Spanish, 1881-1973) is quite possibly the most important figure of the 20th century. Before the age of 50, the Spanish-born artist had become the most recognized name in modern art, with the most distinct style and eye for artistic creation. Prior to Picasso, there had been no other artist who had had such an impact on the art world or had amassed such a following of both fans and critics as he did.
