About this poster: The Montreux Jazz Festival is the best known music festival in Switzerland and one of the most prestigious in Europe. The event is held annually in early July and takes place on the shores of Lake Geneva. The Festival was founded in 1967 and at the time featured almost exclusively jazz artists such as Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, and Keith Jarrett. In the 1980s, when this particular poster was designed, the festival was beginning to expand dramatically and open up to all imaginable music styles (source: Wikipedia).
Niki de Saint Phalle, born Catherine-Marie-Agnès Fal de Saint Phalle (29 October 1930 – 21 May 2002) was a French sculptor, painter, and film maker. On 17 November 2000 the artist became an honorary citizen of Hannover, Germany, and donated 300 pieces of her artwork to the Sprengel Museum. Many of Niki de Saint Phalle's sculptures are large and some of them are exhibited in public places.
