The Illustrated London News was founded in 1811 by Herbert Ingram.  As a newsagent, Ingram was struck by the reliable increase in newspaper sales when they featured pictures and shocking stories. Ingram began to plan a weekly newspaper that would contain pictures in every edition. The first issue of The Illustrated London News appeared on Saturday, 14 May 1842, and was timed to report on the young Queen Victoria’s first masquerade ball. Its 16 pages and 32 wood engravings covered topics such as wars, elections, crime reports, theatre and book reviews, and fashion plates.

This magnificently colored equine print was first published in the London Illustrated News in the 1860s. Purchased in Italy, the piece has been matted and is ready to frame. A perfect gift for a horse lover or anyone who loves vintage ephemera.
