About the poster: Paris' Fondation Maeght is a major player in the modern art world. In operation since 1964, date at which it was inaugurated by Andre Malraux who was then France's Cultural Affairs Minister, the foundation was entirely funded by Aimé and Marguerite Maeght. Located in Saint-Paul-de-Vence near the Riviera, the foundation hosts exhibitions and boasts one of the most important collections of 20th century art in Europe.
The gallery presented this show of drawings in its collection in 1980. The drawing selected for the poster is by Nicolas de Staël (January 5, 1914, a French artist of Russian origin who was a painter known for his use of a thick impasto and his highly abstract landscape painting.
