About The Poster: A wonderful poster dated c. 1955 advertizing the longevity of the Dubied knitting machine brand, "since 1867" ! Produced by Edouard Dubied & Cie S.A., Dubied was a Swiss enterprise that formed in 1867 and closed in 1987. They specialized in the production of machines for the textile industry. Henri-Edouard Dubied was born in Couvet as the son of an absinthe distiller. He founded the business after attending the Expostition Universelle (1867), where he bought the rights to make hand-cranked knitting machines from Isaac W. Lamb. These knitting machines were originally designed for making socks and hosiery, and used a recently-invented kind of mechanical needle. The poster held by the woman in this image shows the classic logo used by the company since its early years (and we have this one in stock as well!) which highlighted how varied and complex these knitting machines were. This poster has been linen-backed and is in excellent condition.
