About the Poster: A wonderful, hand colored cover of a vintage British newspaper called The Graphic (An Illustrated Weekly Newspaper). Dated Saturday, December 28, 1878, it features all manner of Quebec traditions: snowshoes, horse-drawn carriages, ice palaces, parades ... The detail is fantastic and this detail is superb.
Vintage ephemera at it's very best!

A little trivia about the Canadian Governor General in 1878: "When Lord Lorne's appointment was announced, there was great excitement throughout Canada. For the first time, Rideau Hall would have a royal resident – Queen Victoria's fourth daughter, Princess Louise, had married Lord Lorne on March 21, 1871. (Note the welcome signs in the design for 'Lorne' and 'Louise') The Canadian Prime Minister relaxed his busy campaign schedule to prepare for her arrival and to organize a special carriage and corps of guards to protect the princess.:

Professionally matted in an antiqued white gray, this engraving is ready to frame.
A perfect gift for a historian or any Montrealer!
