Date: 1887

This incredibly detailed and distinctive map of Paris was printed in 1887 for the municipal council of the City. Designed to reflect how the city had changed in the previous 100 years, the map itself was based on a plan created in 1789 by Edme Verniquet. At that time Paris has 16 districts, in 16 arrondissements, with a total population of 620,000. By 1887, the Eiffel Tower was in the midst of construction, Louis Pasteur's controversial vaccine was being defended by scientists at the Lycée and Marcel Duchamp was a newborn and the population of Paris had tripled to roughly 1,851,792.

The map also features detailed borders that include the symbols of various saints, the insignias of hospitals and churches around the city, and other points of interest.

Poster is in very good condition with some foxing and fraying on extreme edges of very large margins. Image is intact, colours bright and we feel that this map, when framed, will be the focal point of any room in which it is put.
