Date: 1918
Size: 20 x 29.75 inches
Artist: Sidney H. Riesenberg

This is one of Riesenberg's best known posters. Showing a young soldier (also known as a doughboy) clutching the American flag, this poster encouraged the public to support its military by purchasing liberty loans. Among other posters, it was selected to display in the Smithsonian Museum in an exhibition called Over the Top: American Posters from World War I.

The poster comes from a private collection. It has recently been restored and linen backed and is ready to be framed. Please ask to see more photos should you have any questions regarding the poster's condition.

About the Artist: According to Wikipedia, Riesenberg (1885 – 1971) "was an illustrator and artist who lived in Yonkers, NY and commuted to his studio in NYC by train. He is known, as a professional illustrator, for his posters for the United States Marine Corps and the Liberty bond programs, for his painted pulp covers, magazines, and for oil paintings of diverse subjects." We also found a fun fact about his older brother Felix Riesenberg, who "became a world-famous explorer, sea captain and author of sea stories. He was the navigator of the airship America in the first attempt to reach the North Pole by dirigible in 1907." (artofthegreatwar.info) One would say that the love of the sea ran in the family!
