Herbier de la France ou Collection complette des plantes indigenes de ce royaume, was published across thirteen volumes from 1780 to 1793. Written by Pierre Bulliard (1742-1793), the herbarium contained 600 colour plates with anatomical drawings and details on their characteristics and medical uses.
Featured here is the Agaric larmoyant, which Bulliard says he found in October near Montgeron on the borders of the Senar forest. Although he notes that the taste and smell of these are quite typical, the delicate drawings and written notes at the bottom of the page makes this antique botanical plate a beautiful addition to any kitchen, restaurant, or area where a little retro decor is needed!
Purchased in Italy, the image measures 6.75 x 9.25 inches and has been matted in cream to 11.5 x 14 inches.
