Artist: Plinio Codognato
This fantastic and very rare vintage piece was an advertising carton for a sparkling wine produced in Italy and sponsored by the Italian Wine Commission. It features the typical Italian masked Pierrot figure (Arlecchino in Italian) offering up a delicious glass that is full of bubbly goodness.
Plinio Codognato was one of the leading Italian poster designers of the early 1900's. His clients included Fiat (for whom he worked for 20 years), Pirelli, Cinzano, Campari, Marsala Florio and Columbia Records. He was a book illustrator, painter and poster artist. His works are considered national treasures in Italy where they form the backbone of many museum collections including that of the Civic Museum of Treviso.
This carton is the original produced in Italy in the 1920s. From a private collection. In excellent condition, sold framed.
