About The Poster: This poster is the product of 1920s import markets when rum was produced in colonized countries and brought back to America. Although politically incorrect now, at one time (namely the time when the poster was produced) nobody thought there was anything incorrect about it. At the turn of the century and well into the 1920's, it was not uncommon to see a person of color selling products in print. In fact, Rhum Negrita is cooking alcohol still found in some of France's grocery stores today. There is a large collectible market for Black Americana posters such as this, and while the subject matter may not be for everybody, the beauty of the design and color is undeniable.
One of our followers has published a book which features some of our rum posters. It is called Rum: A Global History and was written by Richard Foss. Interesting reading!
The poster is in excellent condition and linen lined.
