This circular vintage cheese label was made for placing atop a round of Parmigiano Reggiano to make it easily identifiable... not to mention more appealing! The image shows a waiter at a fancy restaurant grating Parmesan onto a plate of food, much to the customer's satisfaction. Pelagatti vedova Chiari (inscribed in yellow along the bottom of the label) was a family-run dairy founded in 1839 by Isotta Pelagatti vedova Chiari, the grandmother of Antonio Chiari who, at age 21, would make the incredible journey by ship in 1909 to New York to introduce his extraordinary cheese to the Americas.
Purchased in Parma, this is an extremely rare label. Although I have seen a tin version of the image in a private museum collection, this label - its colors still beautifully saturated and the image miraculously intact - is an exquisite and exceptional work of art. Custom framed in wood with an inner rim brushed with hints of gold and double matted in white and gold to subtly catch the light. This label would elevate any kitchen, dining room, or restaurant!
