This original print is from a vintage edition of La Presse, a Canadian newspaper. It was founded in 1884, as it recently went digital, this piece is really quite the find! It was drawn by Charles W. Simpson (1878–1942), a Montreal-born artist, illustrator, and member of the R.C.A. (Royal Canadian Academy of the Arts). His more notable works include illustrations of the Saint Lawrence river for the Canadian Pacific Railway Company, his diploma submission 'Indian Summer, Montreal Harbour' which is now in the National Gallery of Canada permanent collection, and commissions for big-name industries - such as Molson beer!
Recently professionally matted in dark-grey, this print would look wonderful in any living room or office.
