Artist: Jean-Gabriel Domergue

A classic French image of Jean-Gabriel Domergue's now iconic Flower Girl who was created as a travel poster for Monte Carlo, Monaco. Through delicate brushstrokes and an explosion of colour, the nymphlike girl is portrayed with elegance and grace, the scandal of her nudity eclipsed by the immensity of the bouquet of flowers in her hands.

Jean-Gabriel Domergue (1889-1962) was a French painter who specialized in portraits of Parisian women and is the self proclaimed 'inventor of the pin-up'. He painted world-famous beauties such as Brigitte Bardot, and hide nudes established his reputation and fortune. He also organized prestige gala events in Cannes (including the great historic automobile gala in the Municipal Casino) and important exhibitions to highlight the work of Toulouse-Lautrec, Baudelaire, Van Gogh, and Berthe Morisot, among others.

This poster is the avant la lettre version, meaning the caption or title had not yet been printed (which also explains why the poster is untrimmed!). Professionally linen backed and in excellent condition, she would look fantastic in a bathroom, living room - anywhere that needs a pop of colour and elegance!
