Born in 1897, Maurer is said to have enjoyed his time painting in the Bavarian Alps; this hobby extend into a brilliant artistic career, primarily dominated by the posters he created for various American railroads including the New Haven Railroad. Maurer migrated to the United States after serving in the German Army in World War 1; he produced posters through the Second World War as well, and created this particular piece further on in his career. His art is characterized by clean lines, bold graphics, and crisp typography.
