I occasionally buy posters just because they appeal to my quirky side (the largest side of my personality). And so it was with this one which was evidently designed to get you out and about on your bike. A number of these banner posters were designed in the 1950s through J. Bazaine, an agency who published and printed many bicycle ads for Peugeot and Automoto.

This one reads "La bicyclette: Seul moyen de transport gratuit!" which translates to "The bicycle: the only free mode of transportation!" The slogan was recycled from an older bicycle banner dating back to 1938 which emphasized geometric Art Deco font over imagery. This 1954 advertisement added character and movement to the black silhouettes and updated the typography to fit mid-century trends. Unlined and in lovely condition, this banner is ready to be framed. A perfect gift for a cyclist or anyone who likes mid-century art!
