Size: 24.25 x 39.25 inches
Artist: Viggo Vagnby
This iconic poster was produced in the early 1960s by Danish artist Viggo Vagnby for the Danish airline Hagen & Sorensen. It shows an elegant swan and young duckling from Hans Christian Andersen's classic The Ugly Duckling. The story is beloved around the world as a tale about personal transformation for the better, with its main character the homely little bird maturing into a swan, the most beautiful bird of all.
The poster was designed to advertise the author's hometown of Odense, Denmark, the commercial hub of Funen and home to a notable shopping district, Odense Palace (erected by King Frederik IV who died there in 1730), the Odense Theatre, the Odense Symphony Orchestra, and of course the Hans Christian Andersen Museum.
With its impeccably sleek design it is no wonder that this poster is a favorite among collectors! Unlined and in great condition (with light signs of wear around the edge - see photos), it would be perfect for a child's bedroom or playroom, the living room, kitchen... anywhere in need of beautiful mid-century Danish art.
