Size: 8.25 x 14 inches
Artist: Georges Matthieu
Mathieu gained an international reputation in the 1950s as a leading Abstract Expressionist. His large paintings were created very rapidly and impulsively. Despite his unconventional technique, he considered himself a historical painter working with abstract subject matter. His paintings and posters are considered highly collectable.
The folder, written in French, contains explanations of Matthieu's style and inspiration, as well as small descriptive paragraphs written by the artist. Also included is a pamphlet which describes the role of posters in the promotion of Air France as an airline.
The posters highlighted some of the airline's most popular destinations: Greece, Israel, Germany, Great Britain, Canada, Egypt, India, Japan, France (naturally!), Italy, Mexico, South America, the United States and Spain.
Cover has some staining, evident in photographs below. Interior is largely in very good condition, with some creasing that does not affect images. Original golden bindery cord included.
