Raoul Dufy (3 June 1877 – 23 March 1953) was a French fauvist painter. He developed a colorful, decorative style that became fashionable for designs of ceramics and textiles, as well as decorative schemes for public buildings. He is noted for scenes of open-air social events. He was also a draftsman, print-maker, book illustrator, a theatrical set-dresser, a designer of furniture, and a planner of public spaces.
This vibrant exhibition poster is recently linen backed and in excellent condition. Having worked with oil paints, watercolours, sketching, tapestry-making, and pottery, this exhibition - held at the the French town Moulin de Vauboyen's cultural centre - contains examples of Dufy's impressive knowledge of various media. The image used is Dufy's "Birds in the Garden" ("Le jardin aux oiseaux"). With its elegant abundance of colour, this poster is perfect for a kitchen or dining room wall!
