René Gruau (Italian) 1909-2004 - With his arresting use of color and confident line-work, Rene Gruau developed the distinctive “new look” of the 1940s. From his brush emerged stunning women who were bold yet fluid, minimalist yet impressive, soft yet explosive. He - and his women - greatly impacted haute couture, theatre, art, and commercial design. Gruau worked for magazines like Harper's Bazaar and Vogue in the US, Femina, Marie Claire, L'Officiel, L'Album du Figaro and other well known publication in France, as well as for internationally known organizations like the Moulin Rouge and Bemberg. With his trademark use of a powerful minimal line, Gruau’s style combined seductive sophistication with classic beauty, grace, glamour and sensual elegance. Because of its timeless style, Gruau’s artwork continues to be internationally celebrated, widely collected, and even exhibited by the finest art institutions - including the Louvre in Paris.

This poster is a fantastic example of the fashionable, stylish illustrations René Gruau is known for. « Femme de dos » (which translates to "Woman Seen From Behind") is alluring and sensual, with a sense of mystery. Perfect for a boudoir, a bedroom... even a cafe!
