About the Poster:  Beginning in the 1950s and through the 1980s, the Polish School of Posters combined the aesthetics of painting with the succinctness and simple metaphor of the poster. It developed characteristics such as painterly gesture, linear quality, and vibrant colors, as well as a sense of individual personality, humor, and fantasy. It was in this way that the polish poster was able to make the distinction between designer and artist less apparent.

This poster, designed by Boleslaw Polnar, was created for a theater piece by Witold Gombrowicz called Trans Atlanyk. About Gombrowicz it has been written that "Gombrowicz is one of the most exceptional writers in the history of literature, at least in terms of his philosophy, his method of constructing texts and the power of his language. He fought endlessly against Polish tradition and history, but this was only the starting point. His work was deeply-rooted in the very tradition with which he struggled, but it managed at the same time to be universal."
Boleslaw Polnar (1952 – 10 February 2014) was a Polish graphic artist, painter and teacher from Opole. One of the most important designers of theater posters in Poland.
