This poster advertises the famous Schweppes carbonated mineral water. Schweppes was founded in 1783 in Geneva by Johann Jacob Schweppe and has been a popular drink of choice ever since. Many different drinks are made by the company, including ginger ale and other fruity-flavoured bubbly sodas. This poster is inspired by a 1960s (and again in the 1970s) advertising campaign by the company that used "Schhh...!" instead of the products' full name (Schweppes), insinuating that everyone knows that Schweppes is the best - you don't even need to say the full word. A similar poster to this one exists in which Marilyn Monroe is shown standing on the straw, imitating the iconic image of her with her skirt being blown in the air. The umbrella in this poster acts in a similar fashion, as if blown inside out by the bubbles being released by the drink.
Printed in Paris, this fabulous poster is linen backed and in excellent condition.
