About The Poster: Swissair was the national airline of Switzerland between its founding in 1931 and bankruptcy in 2002. Swissair was formed from a merger between Balair and Ad Astra Aero.
The MD-11 was manufactured by McDonnell-Douglas and used by Swissair from roughly 1991 (when this poster was produced).
Unfortunately, this model of aircraft has a somewhat tragic connotation when it comes to Swissair: On 2 September 1998, an MD-11 a Swissair flight from John F. Kennedy International AIrport in New York City to Cointrin Airport in Geneva, Switzerland crashed off Peggy's Cove, Newfoundland, killing all 229 passengers on board.Â
