About the poster: The exhibition "Le NU au XXe Siecle" presented 150 works from 60 major artists of the 20th century who redefined the vision of the ''nude''. From the beginning of that period with Paul Cézanne and Auguste Rodin to the early 2000s, the exhibition traces back the work of significant artists who have renewed the notion of the human body through painting and sculpture.
"Beauty is no longer what it was. Apart from any academicism, the nude will experience aesthetic upheavals that none of us had imagined until then. The notion of idealized beauty, a convention of the past centuries, is gradually disappearing ... Every creator now institutes, in his own way, and in the greatest freedom, a representation of the body, far removed from what we know and from what we perceive. Thus, arise images of an unknown body, often abused, unloved? Deconstruction of forms, reconstruction of a revolted world, innovations that will bring new beauties, " wrote Jean-Louis Prat, director of the Maeght Foundation about the exhibition. [source]
