Size: 24.75 x 35.5 inches
Artist: Swierzy, Waldemar
Waldemar Swierzy is active as a poster designer, book designer and illustrator. He graduated from the Krakow Academy of Fine Arts and between 1995-2001 was the head of the poster design studio at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts. An extremely talented artist, his works can be found in the collection of MoMA in New York City.
Beginning in the 1950s and through the 1980s, the Polish School of Posters combined the aesthetics of painting with the succinctness and simple metaphor of the poster. It developed characteristics such as painterly gesture, linear quality, and vibrant colors, as well as a sense of individual personality, humor, and fantasy. It was in this way that the polish poster was able to make the distinction between designer and artist less apparent.
This contemporary Polish poster depicting jazz legend Dizzy Gillespie is unlined and in excellent condition.
