Images were built up through layers of paint rather than ink, resulting in a poster which more closely resembled a painting than a litho. Many Cubans pray to him to ask for health, give thanks for answered prayers, and fulfill promises they have made. The celebration reflects Cuba’s rich blend of Catholic and African religious traditions.
