Artist: Mallasz Gitta
This colourful and vibrant vintage poster is an advertisement for a Hungarian Tourist Agency, IBUSZ. It was designed by Gitta Mallasz, who only turned to poster art after her tumultuous and eventful youth. After winning the 1931 European swimming championship in her twenties, Mallasz continued with her practice of graphic art through to the outbreak of the Second World War. Mallasz is best known for her book "Talking with Angels", which is a series of instructions said to have been delivered spiritually to Gitta and transcribed by her friend. During the war, Gitta lead a clandestine safehouse for Jewish individuals and even though she held a stable career after the world war as a dress and stage designer for a prominent Hungarian cultural group, she abandoned it to resume her graphic design.
This poster is a stunning example of her remarkable talent, with its rich colours, its charming spirit, and its attention to detail.
It is in excellent condition, and is ready to be framed.
