About The Poster: This is a poster for a theatrical production of Charles Dickens' Oliver Twist. According to Swann Galleries, early American posters such as this were printed using woodcuts. These were created using woodblocks from boxwood trees and 3 seperate blocks (one per color) were required. The printer, Calhoun Print & Co., was in operation during the last decades of the nineteenth century.
The poster is showing three scenes from the play: "Oliver escapes from the sweep", "Oliver plucks a spirit," and "Oliver asks for more". It has been mounted linen and is in very good condition.
