About The Poster:
Chess is a musical that was written by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus of ABBA, with lyrics by Time Rice. The Cold-War-era story involves a politically driven chess tournament between two grandmasters, one American and the other Soviet. Although the protagonists were not intended to represent any real individuals, the character of the American grandmaster (named Freddie Trumper in the stage version) was loosely based on Bobby Fischer, while elements of the story may have been inspired by the chess career of Russian grandmaster Anatoly Karpov.
Chess opened on London's West End in 1986 and had a three-year run. A much-altered U.S. version premiered on Broadway in 1988, but survived only for two months. This poster is from that show, and is original. Overall it is in good condition, but does show its age. Please see images below.
