About the artist: Né au Caire à Montenotte en Ligurie, en Italie, Carlo Leone Gallo était affectueusement connu de ses contemporains sous le nom dialectal "Leonin". Il a étudié à la prestigieuse Académie Albertina de Turin auprès de maîtres réputés comme Giacomo Grosso. Au-delà de ses tableaux de chevalet très recherchés, Gallo a étendu sa polyvalence à l’illustration graphique et à l’art public. Notamment, il a peint une célèbre série de panneaux votifs pour le Sanctuaire de Notre-Dame du Désert à Millesimo.
