About the poster:
Max Ponty was a French artist and illustrator. He is best known for his iconic designs for the French cigarette brand "Gitanes".
Gitanes company’s branding was based on the iconography of the Gitane, or “Gypsy” in French, denoting a free-spirited and bohemian lifestyle. Ponty’s designs draws from this idea and depict the silhouette of a free, confident, and mysterious dancer, shrouded in the elusive billows of cigarette smoke.
The black, blue, and white palette, as well as Ponty’s sleek design, have become emblematic of the brand and have been heavily featured in popular culture.
The poster, a re-issue of the original produced in 1947, is in very good condition and ready to frame. From a private collection.
