About the Artist : Georges Redon began illustrating news and humor newspapers.  In 1897, he opened his own lithographic workshop at 80 rue Caulaincourt. Redon’s paintings and engravings were regularly exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français, at the National Society of Fine Arts, the Salon d’Automne (of which he is the founding secretary), and at the Salon des Peintres Lithographes of 1909 and 1913. (Washington Color Gallery)

During the First World War, Redon was mobilized as a non-commissioned officer.

About the Poster :

This poster was produced as part of the 1917 national loan campaign launched by the French government, asking citizens to contribute financially to the war effort.

Between 1915 and 1918, the State organized four major national loans. To mobilize the population, it conducted large-scale propaganda campaigns (posters, newspapers, speeches) urging civilians to support the nation.

When translated from French, the poster reads « So that your children no longer know the horrors of the war »

The poster is an excellent condition, it has recently been restored and linen-backed !
