He crossed paths with other significant writers and artists, like Marcel Proust, Pablo Picasso, Guillaume Apollinaire, and Amedo Modigliani.
His early works focused on literary and theatrical pieces, blending classical mythology with surrealist stylings. His notable works include the play Orphée (1926), the novel Les Enfants terribles (1929), the film The Blood of a Poet (1930), and his classic film adaption Beauty and the Beast (1946). Focusing heavily on visual artworks in his later years, he experimented with fluid line-work, pastel drawings, paintings, lithographs, ceramics, and frescos.
