About the artist:

Ib Andersen (1907–1967) was a Danish artist, graphic designer, and cartoonist. He originally trained in architecture, an influence that is clearly reflected in his geometric approach and frequent depictions of urban scenes.

From 1934 until his death, Andersen served as art editor of Politiken magazine. Alongside his editorial work, he was an influential commercial artist, producing numerous book illustrations and making a significant contribution to the development of Danish poster design.

Andersen exhibited throughout his career, most notably at Charlottenborg (1931), with the Grønningen group (1933–1940), and internationally in Oslo (1948) and Zurich (1951). In 1967, the Danish Museum of Art & Design (Kunstindustrimuseet) held a retrospective exhibition of his work. He became a member of the Grønningen artists’ association in 1935.

About this poster

Andersen designed this poster to advertise the danish newspaper Politiken. It was printed on two sheets and assembled. Andersen's bold cubist design and striking colours make it a standout piece, emblematic of mid- century Scandinavian design.

The poster is in excellent condition. It has recently been restored and linen-backed.
