About The Poster: In 1990 France's Biblioteque Nationale re-issued a limited number of prints made from Toulouse Lautrec's original lithographic plates for his famous collection of women called simply, Elles.

Delicately coloured and ethereal in a manner which harkens back to Lautrec's earliest works, this collection is simple, elegant and very refined. This cover of the collection, shown here, was once framed and is still matted. It can be sold with or wihout the mat.

Much has been written about Toulouse Lautrec - his short stature, his larger than life impact on the Parisian art scene, his fascination with women (both high and low class)... His full name was Henri Marie Raymond de Toulouse Lautrec Monfa, (1864-1901) and while the fact that his parents were cousins may not be the only reason for his congenital malformed body, it certainly didn't help. It has been said that he used his disadvantaged height as an impetus to produce grand works of art - almost as a compensation. Whatever the motivation, Elles shows his usual restraint and sense of irony (note the gentleman's top hat, almost as an afterthought, in the foreground...).

This piece is from a private collection.
