Danish Poster Art Travels to Montreal for Summer 2015 Premiere Exhibition

The gallery L’Affichiste in Old Montreal presents the first ever exhibition of Danish illustrator Mads Berg’s work in North America. These posters will be printed in a limited edition series and hand signed by the artist. For a two-week period, L’Affichiste will replace its usual display of Art Nouveau and Art Deco posters with Berg’s contemporary posters. Join us for the exhibition’s vernissage on August 13, 2015 from 6:00 - 9:00 pm at L’Affichiste, 471 Saint Francois Xavier in Old Montreal.

Mads Berg is a Danish illustrator specializing in poster design, brand and editorial illustrations, cover art, and murals. Based out of Copenhagen, Berg has an impressive list of international clients. His work is characterized by a style that translates classic poster art into a modern and timeless look.

Born in 1975, Berg graduated from the Danish Design School in 2001 and has since been working independently as a professional illustrator and occasional lecturer at design schools across Denmark. He has been a jury member for the Best in Swedish (Kolla) and Norwegian (Visuelt) Contemporary Illustration on several occasions, in 2010 he was awarded the “Best Danish Children's Comic” prize, and in 2009 the Danish Design Prize. Berg’s poster art is represented at the Danish National Design Archives at the Design Museum Danmark.

Karen Etingin, the owner of L’Affichiste and a poster collector for more than 30 years, works with private, corporate and institutional poster collectors from around the world. A proud member of the International Vintage Poster Dealers Association, L’Affichiste boasts a collection of over 4,000 pieces from around the world, including posters from the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods, mid-century advertising cartons and tins, and an impressive selection of political and propaganda posters.

The exhibition will be open to the public from August 14 - 30, from 10:00 - 5:00 daily.
