Ukraine: The Art of Self-Defense
On Thursday, November 2, 2023, from 5-7pm, in collaboration with UQAM Design Center, Pictoric and the Ukrainian Club of Montreal, L'affichiste will present Ukraine: The Art of Self-Defense. L'Affichiste will highlight 15 powerful, emotion-evoking limited-edition posters created by Ukrainian artists (from an overall collection of 36) and giving all proceeds from the evening to the Ukrainian Club of Montreal.
The exhibition has been described as a presentation "of anti-war illustrations that represent a powerful set of original visual statements. These were prepared by Ukrainian artists living in a war zone who daily see the effects of bombs falling, tearing apart lives and destroying homes. Overall, the images evoke the pain and hope of Ukraine, whose future is broken but remains promising. The great diversity of styles reflects the many experiences and reactions resulting from the brutal and inhumane war waged by Russia."
The event at L'Affichiste is just one of a series of presentations that will take place on-line and at the UQAM Centre du Design between October 12 and November 5. The exhibition has been organized by Marc H. Choko, professor emeritus at the UQAM Design Center and Nicolas Saint-Cyr, Creative Director at Urbania and a graduate of graphic design studies at UQAM.
