In the late 1800s and early 1900s companies often issued collector cards as a way of getting consumers to buy more product - much like hockey or baseball cards in the 20th century. Cigarette companies, sewing machine companies, and in this case, a company that made soup bouillon cubes (Liebig) found new and novel subjects - like faraway destinations (in this case, the Canadian Rockies) to entice consumers to buy more product in order to collect more cards.

I found these in Milan and had them professionally (and we think beautifully!) matted and framed. Very rare, highly collectable.

Each card size measures 4.25" x 3", while the framed size measures 11" x 9.5".
