About the Poster: The Venice Simplon-Orient-Express (VSOE) is a private luxury train inaugurated in 1982. The midnight-blue cars rolled onto the rails after years of restorations of its delightful vintage cabins.The train service also features elaborate cuisine and luxury accommodations and goes through some of the most beautiful and romantic cities in Europe. It is popularly referred to as the Orient Express and brings back an authentic experience from the elegant age of rail travel.
This beautiful poster was designed by French artist Pierre Fix-Masseau in 1979. The image depicts the inside of a passenger cabin, where guests are being served wine while the train continues on its journey in the top section of the poster. This fine dining environment showcases the luxurious experience that was offered to the Orient Express clientele.

About the Artist: Fix-Masseau's father was also an artist and served as the Director of the National School of Decorative Arts in Limoges. A graduate of the School of Decorative Arts in Paris, Fix-Masseau was invited in 1928 to work with famed poster artist Cassandre at his Versailles studio. He went on to design advertisements for luxury products and for Air France, the French National Lottery, and the national rail service. The artist's works are now in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the MoMA among others.
