About the poster: As opposed to the French who pioneered the lithographic process, Cuban poster production in the 1950s and 60s was primarily centered around silk screening. Images were built up through layers of paint rather than ink, resulting in a poster which more closely resembled a painting than a litho. The printing tradition continues with CartelON, a project devoted to promoting silkscreening in Cuba by organizing graphic design contests where creatives of all ages can be inspired to explore screenprinting.

Nelson Ponce Sánchez is a designer and graduate illustrator at the Cuban Design Institute in Havana. From 1998 to 2011 he taught Illustration and poster classes at the institute and he has lectured on these topics at universities in America and Europe.

Kika is a 1993 film by director Pedro Almodóvar, following a cosmetologist, Kika, who is hired by a famous American author to prepare the corpse of his recently deceased son. The film follows a tale of revival, love, jealousy, and tabloid journalism. This poster is unlined and in excellent condition!
