As opposed to the French who pioneered the lithographic process, Cuban poster production in the 1950s and 60s was primarily centered around silk screening. Images were built up through layers of paint rather than ink, resulting in a poster which more closely resembled a painting than a litho. The printing tradition continues with CartelON, a project devoted to promoting silkscreening in Cuba by organizing graphic design contests where creatives of all ages can be inspired to explore screen printing.

About the movie: The movie, directed by Tomás Gutiérrez Alea in 1976, is set in a pious Havana plantation during the Spanish colonial period. The plantation owner decides to recreate a biblical scene, the Last supper, using himself as Christ and twelve slaves who work in the sugarcane fields. Whilst they eat, the plantation owner also recites a religious rhetoric to them and tries to evangelize them. Then, he makes various promises, which will not necessarily be fulfilled, causing a slave revolt.
